Classroom Technology Basics

Each classroom has podium with an iMac computer connected to an HD projector and an AV system that provides sound to the room and is capable of accepting outside inputs, such as a laptop or a camera.  Each classroom also has a printer.

 

All of our publicly available podium and desktop computers include:

  • Basics such as: Chrome Browser, VLC, and TextWrangler
  • Apple Office Suite ( Pages, Numbers, Keynote) and Microsoft Office Suite ( Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, including: Photoshop, Premiere, InDesign, Lightroom.
  • A collection of data analysis and transform tools, including: OpenRefine, OutWit Hub, R, Skitch, Tabula.

 

All of our podium and lab computers also include:

  • Media production software, including: Avid Pro Tools, Audio Hijack, EditReady, dbPowerAmp, Reaper.
  • Lab 332 has additional software for VR production, including:
    Kolor Autopano Giga and Autopano Video Pro, GoPro App (for Desktop)

 

Room Connectivity (network, projector, sound)

  • wifi
  • wireless projection and sound via Reflector

Additional Tech Services by Space

In addition to the equipment provided in the various spaces throughout the J-School there are a number of services that the J-School tech team can provide, depending on which space you are requesting.  Requests for the services listed below must be communicated AT LEAST two weeks prior to the event and may incur additional cost related to staffing.

 

Newsroom:

  • The largest space in the school, our newsroom can be configured for large team meetings, presentations, press conferences, screenings, etc.  A total of eight microphones can be made available for this space; this room can also be configured to provide a live video stream of the event (available at journalism.cuny.edu/live).  We can also provide an audio or video recording of the event (please provide media/drive);  an audio feed can also be provided should participants want to make their own recording.  The Newsroom also has a total of fifteen monitors on our Media Wall and on the walls surrounding the space; digital signage, presentations, or cable news programming can be displayed on any or all of these monitor (J-School tech staff not responsible for providing content).

 

Room 308:

  • Our main event space, perfect for large team meetings, presentations, press conferences, screenings, etc.  In addition to the 13 available microphones, this room can also be configured to provide a live video stream of the event (available at journalism.cuny.edu/live).  We can also provide an audio or video recording of the event (please provide media/drive);  an audio feed can also be provided should participants want to make their own recording.

 

Classrooms 330, 332, 430, 434, 436, 438, 440, 442, 444 or Conference Room 406:

  • Perfect for team meetings and presentations, these room can easily be configured to accommodate a webinar or GoogleChat/Skype video call should you have participants who are unable to be there in person.  Rooms 332, 436, and 438 are our computer labs, ideal for group trainings.

 

Cafe/Lobby:

  • A nice space for small receptions or get togethers, we can provide a microphone for this space, and music can be played in this space provided a media player is provided.  The Cafe/Lobby also has a three monitors on the walls surrounding the space; digital signage, presentations, or cable news programming can be displayed on any or all of these monitor (J-School tech staff not responsible for providing content).
